The standard enthalpy change of neutralization for the reaction between hydrochloric acid  HCl  and sodium hydroxide  NaOH  is approximately -57.1 kJ/mol. This value represents the amount of heat released when one mole of HCl reacts with one mole of NaOH in aqueous solution to form one mole of water  H2O  and one mole of sodium chloride  NaCl .
