The Lewis structure of the molecule C2H6  ethane  can be drawn as follows:1. Count the total number of valence electrons: Carbon has 4 valence electrons  since it is in Group 14 , and hydrogen has 1 valence electron  since it is in Group 1 . So, for two carbon atoms and six hydrogen atoms, there are a total of 2 4  + 6 1  = 14 valence electrons.2. Place the least electronegative atom in the center: In this case, both central atoms are carbon, so place them next to each other.3. Distribute the valence electrons as bonding pairs: Each carbon atom forms a single bond with the other carbon atom, using 2 valence electrons. Then, each carbon atom forms single bonds with three hydrogen atoms, using 6 valence electrons for each carbon. This accounts for all 14 valence electrons.4. Check the octet rule: Each carbon atom is surrounded by 8 electrons  4 bonding pairs , and each hydrogen atom is surrounded by 2 electrons  1 bonding pair . The octet rule is satisfied for all atoms. The Lewis structure of C2H6  ethane  can be represented as:      H      |H - C - C - H      |      H
