In sodium chloride  NaCl , the type of bonding present is ionic bonding. This occurs between the positively charged sodium ions  Na+  and the negatively charged chloride ions  Cl- . The electrostatic attraction between these oppositely charged ions forms the ionic bond.In diamond, which is a form of pure carbon  C , the type of bonding present is covalent bonding. Each carbon atom in diamond is bonded to four other carbon atoms in a tetrahedral arrangement, with each bond being a strong covalent bond. This results in a very stable and rigid crystal lattice structure. In copper  Cu , the type of bonding present is metallic bonding. Copper is a metal, and in metallic bonding, the positively charged metal ions  cations  are surrounded by a sea of delocalized electrons. These electrons are free to move throughout the lattice, allowing metals to conduct electricity and heat efficiently. The electrostatic attraction between the metal cations and the delocalized electrons forms the metallic bond.
