Copper  II  sulfate pentahydrate  CuSO45H2O  has a triclinic crystal structure. In this structure, the copper  Cu  atom is surrounded by four oxygen atoms from water molecules and two oxygen atoms from the sulfate ion  SO4 , forming an octahedral geometry. Therefore, the coordination number of the metal atom  Cu  in copper  II  sulfate pentahydrate is 6.
