Piaget's cognitive development theory aimed to explain the development of cognition and thinking processes from birth to adulthood. It highlights the importance of cognitive schemas, assimilation and accommodation in learning and adaptation. However, the theory has been criticised for underestimating the role of social and cultural factors in cognitive development.
