plants

Many mammals are herbivores. Herbivores are heterotrophs that eat only or mainly plant foods  or algae . Depending on the species of mammals, they may eat leaves, shoots, stems, roots, seeds, nuts, fruits, flowers, and/or grasses. Some mammals even eat conifer needles or tree bark. Mammals that are herbivores include rabbits, mice, sheep, zebras, deer, kangaroos, and monkeys. The manatee in Figure below is also a herbivorous mammal. It eats mainly kelp  seaweed .
