central vacuole

Most mature plant cells have a large central vacuole . This vacuole can make up as much as 90% of the cells volume. The central vacuole has a number of functions, including storing substances such as water, enzymes, and salts. It also helps plant tissues, such as stems and leaves, stay rigid and hold their shape. It even helps give flowers, like the ones in Figure below , their beautiful colors.
