Autotrophs are organisms that make their own food. Most autotrophs use the energy in sunlight to make food in a process called photosynthesis . Only three types of organismsplants, algae, and some bacteriacan make food through photosynthesis. Examples of each type of photosynthetic organism are shown in Figure below .
