haloalkaliphiles
Alkaliphiles are organisms that "love" bases. Bases are like the opposite of acids. Basic environments where archaeans are found include Mono Lake in California, pictured in Figure below . Mono Lake is the oldest lake in North America. The water is not only unusually basic. It's also saltier than the ocean. So archaeans that live in the water of Mono Lake must have adaptations to both salty and basic conditions. They are haloalkaliphiles.
